Sports activity leads to safety

Projects that came to the fore during the pandemic when individual movements were the only forms of sports activities. In these activities, it is easier to get to know the roads on which people moved than when driving a car. In the second phase, the projects became a link between safety and culture in traffic with an active lifestyle, getting to know the transport system and touristic acquaintance with destinations outside the place of residence.

Actively engaging in sports from a young age is important for the mental and physical health of both children and adults. Active movement, whether it is walking, running, or cycling, reduces the need to use passenger cars. A smaller number of passenger cars increases both the level of traffic safety and a better environment for all of us. Sports for safety include competitive, recreational, and memorial races, as well as training on routes with interesting traffic. During the implementation of the activities, traffic situations, characteristics of certain destinations or routes, and the peculiarities of the race itself and traffic participants are recorded. The basic message that SGI sends with this project is: If you want to chasing down the city streets, run without speed limits!

Stronger than Corona (2020)

During the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual races called Stronger than Corona were launched, which aim to maintain health by moving safely, but also to maintain communication between runners via social media. First, one virtual race was organized, and then five more virtual races in a small league Stronger than Corona. SG.I members joined the virtual races and during the run “measured Zagreb” and recorded the traffic situation on the city streets from east to west and from north to south. In doing so, they dedicated the first race to the victims of the devastating earthquake in Zagreb.

Videos were made about everything, and the results were presented at the CSR conference.

Individual participation in races

Special attention was paid when choosing races to humanitarian races that help those most vulnerable. We participated in the Milky Way and the Vukovar Butterflies humanitarian race

In addition to humanitarian races, we were attracted to races that promoted a connection with nature, so we participated in the ÄŒaplja League along the Trnava stream in Dubrava and the Ranger RUN in Lonjsko Polje.

SGI.I was the sponsor of sports shirts for the Running is our Therapy team at the Zagreb Night Centre, and this was the impetus for running various races with our favourite Octopus with an attitude.
